Craniosacral Therapy

MAURA CRONIN LMP, HERBALIST

SCHEDULE WITH MAURA

Craniosacral Therapy is a soothing, noninvasive, precise, hands-on therapy, with profound whole-person healing potential. This somatic approach to well-being is known for its gentleness and effectiveness in treating a variety of traumas and imbalances. Andrew T. Still, the founder of osteopathy, consistently directed his students to listen for health as a starting point. The cerebrospinal fluid, a chi or force that blows through the system, is infused with information and intelligence giving it vitality and vital responses to life.

Craniosacral asks the practitioner to listen deeply and trust the body’s innate wisdom by holding space and allowing the body to heal itself, integrating the whole through addressing and gently unwinding constrictive holding patterns. These strain patterns influence the structural relationships of bones, muscles, and organs.

The central nervous system is directly involved in mediating the stress response. Craniosacral Therapy is a clinical approach to help down-regulate sensitized states of the CNS. Correcting anatomical deviations that interfere with the free flow of blood and "nerve force" in the body will often bring about a deep stillness, a newly-filled breath and a re-orientation to life.

The craniosacral system includes the brain, the cerebrospinal fluid, the system of membranes inside the cranium, all 22 cranial bones, the spine and the sacrum. Craniosacral therapy comes out of Osteopathy. Osteopathy came out of Bonesetting, which was practiced in Neanderthal times, and likely before then.  Visionary Craniosacral Work® , founded by Scottish Osteopath Hugh Milne, teaches deep listening and using all perceptive senses to effectively perceive the cranial wave- equated to the ‘breath of life’, ‘spirit’, ‘wind’, ‘potency’…originating at the moment of conception. It takes presence, experience, skilled training and compassion to sit with the cranial wave. One must tune through the strain pattern with a strong orientation towards health.

The work is a profound reset to our systems and can address symptoms from migraine, headache, vertigo, tinnitus, concussion and brain injury, reflux, neck and sinus challenges, TMJ and jaw clenching to back/hip pain, depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, constipation or gut issues, sleep patterns, and more.

In babies, the work can help with latch, feeding and clicking, cranial distortions, pre and post tongue tie release (also lip & cheek),  reflux and digestion, torticollis, ear infection, reflex integration, sensory processing, birth trauma, basic development, delays and more. The work is highly beneficial during pregnancy as strain patterns often develop in utero and a healthy system for mom can positively impact navigating pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
