Lately, in our practice, we have been hearing these frequent complaints:
“I always feel like I am bloated, no matter what I eat!”
“All I want is sweets! It’s out of control!”
“I feel like I am just constantly tired and dragging.”
“My child is so hyper and then so irritable. She doesn’t even seem to listen to me anymore.”
“I’ve been anxious and depressed recently, and I can’t seem to figure out why.”
“My baby and I have thrush.”
Upon further history intake and muscle testing, these complaints all have one thing in common: YEAST. Yeast, those little buggers. AKA, “Candidias.” They are small micro organisms, but they sure can do a great amount of damage if left untreated. Here’s why…
When we have an increased take in foods that convert to sugars in our diet, or have been on antibiotics, we become subject to an over growth of yeast in the small intestines. Yeast, being a live organism, wants to thrive. To do so, it will make your body crave more sugar to feed off. This problem escalates quietly, but quickly. If the overgrowth gets bad enough, it can root itself in the intestinal wall and create micro holes or tares. (Other things can cause this too, like prescription drugs and lots of processed foods, or eating foods that we know we have an allergy or sensitivity too.)
So, with these micro tares, the intestines can leak more yeast and toxins from what we eat into our blood stream and the rest of the body, which can have negative impacts on us. This is what is called “Leaky Gut Syndrome” and it is EXTREMELY common, but far too unknown of in our society. Symptoms of a leaky gut can include physical problems that we would easily be able to correlate with intestinal distress, like irritable bowel syndrome: bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea and cramps.
However, because there is a Gut-Brain connection too, there can be other symptoms that are less likely perceived to be linked to this problem: trouble with sleep, headaches, concentration, moodimbalances, auto-immune diseases, skin flare ups (rashes or acne), joint and muscle pain/inflammation, and decreased immune system function are a few of them. A large amount of the chemical, serotonin, the “happy hormone,” is manufactured in the gut. Serotonin is the chemical (that the brain also produces), that is responsible for regulating our mood. Those who are deficient in this chemical, are those who suffer from depression, anxiety, anger, and in children, it’s often seen as “acting up” and behavioral problems.
In fact, the gut actually has it’s own network of nerves that communicates to the brain called “The enteric nervous system” via the Vagus nerve. This nerve is found in the brain stem right around the first cervicle bone under the skull, called the “Atlas.” This is why its important for EVERYONE to get checked for subluxations or misalignments, because if that bone is not right, then the communication between the brain and gut is challenged. Also, don’t forget, the gut, or particularly the small intestine, is responsible for the majority of our immune function. This is where we have (or should have!) all the good bacteria that assist in keeping us healthy. If yeast is present in the gut, this will greatly decrease the amount of good bacteria present.
So how do we get rid of yeast?
The first step is to remove foods that the yeast will feed off of. This includes anything with a high concentration of sugars or foods that will break down into sugars in the body:
•Carbohydrates (bread, cereals, rice and other grains, oats, pasta, crackers, cookies, pizza, etc.)
•Alcohol, sodas and juices
•Fruits and veggies high on the glycemic index (melons, bananas, grapes, potatoes, corn, beets) and limiting some of the other ones like carrots, squashes, and berries, to just one to two servings a day.
•Things that are fermented like sauerkraut or kombucha…..please note that NORMALLY, fermented foods are super good for the gut, but in situations with yeast or candidias, it can cause a flare up.
By removing these things, we can let the yeast die off.
Furthermore, You can also add things to help kill it off:
•Increasing probiotic intake (Prosynbiotics by Standard Process)
•Garlic (like a clove or two a day, or taken in capsule form by Standard Process)
•Grapeseed Oil Extract
•Olive Leaf Extract
•Pau d’Arco and Black Walnut (these are herbs, so if you are pregnant or nursing, it is not advised for long-term use)
•Zymex by Standard Process
Sad to say, sometimes this can take weeks, sometimes in bad cases or where we are “sneaking foods back in” it can take a month or more. Simultaneously, we want to include LOTS of other vitamins and minerals to help restore the gut lining, like magnesium and B and C vitamins, and the amino acid, L-Glutamine. Also, try taking a spoonful of coconut oil (in some manner) every day, because coconut oil can fight yeast and bacteria.
If you find that what you have read here is making you nervous you have a yeast build up in your system, don’t hesitate to call our office and book an appointment to test your system.

Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) engages one in self study, self help. In the process of “Know Myself”, one can learn from the body about tension and imbalances, and begin to understand and use the process to restore balance health and well being.
For those who want to become actively responsible for maintaining their own health and happiness. JSJ is an excellent means to that end. In dealing with stress, chronic or more recent health disharmonies and for health maintenance and high energy level, JSJ is a simple and powerful tool available to all.
The intention of this one-day training is to present basic principles and theory of JSJ. Special emphasis will be placed on “self-help” tools, enabling the training participants to care for and work with themselves, their friends and loved ones. There will be specific handouts to show you how to utilize these simple steps to health and happiness.
This training is based upon Mary Ino Burmeister’s three (3) “Jin Shin Jyutsu Is” self-help books and chart and/or the self help book from Bantam Publishers, “The Touch of Healing” by Alice Burmeister and Tom Monte. Not required but very useful to have one or the other of these books. You can find them available at or on Amazon.
AlLandra has been involved with JSJ since 1984 when she began her studies with Mary Ino Burmeister. Since 1987 when she returned to MA from living in Colorado she has had offices in Boston, Manchester-by-the-Sea and Rockport. She is a JSJ Practitioner, Self-Help Instructor and was the Boston area coordinator for the Basic Five Day Trainings for JSJ,Inc. of Scottsdale, AZ. Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) is a practice dedicated to bringing integration and balance
to children and adults with specific learning obstacles (including ADD/ADHD, dyslexia,
dyspraxia), coordination difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Parkinson’s disease. It
can also benefit people with mild to severe emotional and behavioral challenges, anxiety,
panic, and general life overwhelm. The practice evolved from studying the role of the
movements and reflex patterns that babies naturally make from conception through walking.
Kerstin Linde, the originator, and Dr. Harald Blomberg, the developer, modified these natural
movements into exercises that provide an effective means of stimulating one’s tactile
(touch), vestibular (balance and gravity) and proprioceptive (inner awareness of body) senses
for integrated system operation. For more information, visit: www.rhythmicmovement.com

Fairouz (Fai) Rouzad will be at Inner Source Wellness February 28th doing Inuitive Psychological Bio Accupressure. Inuitive Psychological Bio Accupressure or IPBA represents an extraordinary advance in the complex fields of self-help techniques and psychotherapies.
“Every person has reported lasting results in the removal of thier blocks and issues they had been dealing with and hoping to heal. Everything from anxiety and panic attacks to blurred vision and physical pains were dealt with in those sessions.
If you have anything that you have been dealing with, struggling with, hoping to have a breakthrough with, anything you want to leave behind you and be free from in the New Year – you may want to consider one of these sessions.”.
IPBA has two aspects:
1. Self Healing through the simultanious pressure of selected 5 points on the body. This allows for instant control of the largest part of our negative emotions. Situations ranging from the common jitters to sudden panic attacks can be handled successfully. This also allows for overcoming stressful situations like relationship breakups or unexpected loss. You are given the possibility to cope with the circumstances in an empowering way.
2. Allows for rapid and lasting removal of the mental blocks. Which are responsible for things like lack of confidence, fear of abandonment, or to much aggression. All of which sabotage our success. This is the most revolutionary part of IPBA and is used by specially trained practitioners with much quicker and more effecient results than the majority of psychotherapy techniques.
~ Sessions will be booked for Friday February 24th
~ Sessions are 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes long
~ Cost $100
Sessions will be booked with Fairouz Rouzad (Fai) who currently works with Dr. Dilette in France. She is approved by the PBA French Federation of Psycho Bio Accupressure. Fai is also a Osteopathy Energy Therapist, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Practitioner and NVC (Non Violent Communications) Practitioner.
